To evaluate meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) by infrared thermography. ⋯ The eyelid margin temperature measured by infrared thermography was higher in MGD participants. Further development of this infrared thermography system may become a rapid and non-invasive tool for MGD screening.

This study aimed to evaluate the expression of β-catenin and its downstream target glutamine synthetase (GS) in hepatoblastoma (HB), and to evaluate the use of these two markers for diagnosing HB. ⋯ The results suggest that nuclear β-catenin expression and diffuse GS immunostaining are the hallmarks of HB. Although epithelial and mesenchymal components of HB display nuclear β-catenin staining, this expression is attenuated following chemotherapy-induced cell maturation. GS immunostaining is especially useful for the assessment of section margins after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Cushing's disease (CD) is the most common cause of endogenous Cushing's syndrome. Transsphenoidal surgery (TSS) is the first choice of treatment. Predicting prognosis after treatment can benefit further strategies of management, but currently there is no convenient predictor. This study aims to investigate characteristic changes after treatment and to identify potential prognostic predictors. ⋯ A larger decrease in BMI after treatment and lower DHEAS levels before treatment were noted for the patients who stayed in CD remission. Higher ACTH levels before treatment predicted a recurrence of CD. These are potentially simple and practical predictors of prognosis.

Postoperative acute lung injury (ALI) after liver transplantation is clinically relevant and common. The perioperative thoracic fluid indices changes as well as the association with ALI in liver transplantation have not been thoroughly investigated. ⋯ Recipients who did or did not develop ALI after liver transplantation had a longer mechanical ventilation duration and showed different patterns of perioperative thoracic fluid indices, especially in the pretransplant status of PVPI level. Knowledge of these perioperative changes may provide clinicians with helpful information to make postoperative care choices.
