To examine the possible association of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and depression on sleep quality in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PWLHIV). ⋯ The results suggest that depression may be the most likely cause of sleep disorders in PWLHIV, regardless of OSA.

To investigate the potential association between ABO blood groups and intrauterine fetal growth restriction (IUGR) among pregnant women who delivered at King Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAUH), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. ⋯ Our study results showed that women with blood groups AB and B had slightly higher rates of IUGR than those with A and O, who had lower rates of IUGR. A larger study comparing blood group O to other groups may provide more insight into the relationship between ABO blood groups and IUGR.

To describe the increasing number of gastric cancer cases at Bahrain Defense Force Hospital with implementation of immunohistochemistry markers as prognostic factors. ⋯ The common gastric cancers are signet ring cell adenocarcinoma and intestinal type adenocarcinoma, affecting a wide range of age groups (33-91 years), with those over 60 years at greater risk. Interestingly, low Ki67 is associated with a higher mortality rate, whereas p53 has no prognostic significance. Expression of both Ki67 and p53 showed no association with survival time.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria constitute one of the most serious global health threats. The increasing incidence rate of bacterial infections caused by MDR strains and the decrease in the number of newly developed antibiotics have prompted the scientific community to search for alternatives. One such alternative is the use of bacteriophages. ⋯ In addition, this review highlights the effect of bacteriophages against bacterial biofilms. The existing knowledge indicates that phage therapy is a potential therapeutic strategy against MDR bacteria. However, the adverse effects of phage therapy, such as toxicity, and the emergence of phage resistance have not yet been resolved.

To determine the allelic frequencies and effects of genotypic variations in cytokine gene polymorphisms in a Saudi Arabian population. ⋯ The CT genotype at -31 (rs1143627) in the IL-1β gene was not associated with a high risk of pSS development in the Saudi population, in contrast to what has been verified in other ethnicities. However, the C allele in rs10488631 in IRF-5 and the A allele in rs12583006 in BAFF were associated.
