To assess the prevalence of carotid atherosclerosis in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. ⋯ The prevalence of carotid atherosclerosis among patients in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was low. A high prevalence of hypertension and diabetes (≥50%) was observed among the patients. Multicenter studies involving larger Saudi samples are warranted to explore carotid atherosclerosis risk factors.

Comparison of lidocaine viscous gargle and topical application on laryngeal mask airway in general anesthesia: A randomized clinical trial.
To investigate the effects and safety of lidocaine viscous gargle on postoperative sore throat (POST) in patients receiving a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) in general anesthesia. ⋯ Lidocaine viscous gargle showed no statistically significant difference in incidence of POST and incidence of pharynx dryness compared with topical application of lidocaine on the LMA. To investigate the relationship of the erythrocyte distribution width (RDW)/albumin ratio on hospital length of stay (LOS) and prognosis in patients hospitalized with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbation. ⋯ In further analysis results of patients hospitalized due to COPD exacerbation, there was no significant relationship between length of hospital stay, mortality, and the RDW/albumin ratio.

To analyze the influence of pulmonary infection after radical esophagectomy on serum inflammatory markers, pulmonary function, and prognosis. ⋯ Postoperative pulmonary infection can lead to pulmonary function damage, proinflammatory factor overexpression, and an increased risk of early death.
