Many kinds of video-typed laryngoscopes are widely used for tracheal intubation in many clinical situations. The present study was performed to compare the ease in the use of the Airway Scope (AWS), Trueview EVO2 (TVE), and Fibertech Video Laryngoscope (FVL). ⋯ This study suggests that inexperienced medical students would perform tracheal intubation using AWS in a short time without dental click in a simulated manikin.

A 71-year-old man with sigmoid colon cancer was scheduled for the sigmoidectomy under general anesthesia. In preoperative examination, an epiglottic cyst was found accidentally. He had no subjective symptom. ⋯ Then a gum elastic bougie (GEB) was inserted under observation by AWS monitor. GEB was passed into the trachea, and the tube was passed over the GEB into the trachea. Combined use of AWS and GEB is useful for endotracheal intubation in a patient with a epiglottic cyst.

In cesarean section, residual neuromuscular blockade is often observed at the end of the operation. Sugammadex (SGX) is a selective relaxant-binding agent which reverses the blockade at any depth in 2-3 minutes. We investigated whether SGX improves the efficient management of operating rooms. ⋯ SGX decreased the time to extubation after cesarean section under general anesthesia after surgery, and could improve the efficient management of operating rooms.

Ambulatory electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is prevailing nowadays because of its lower cost and less disruption of the patient's social activity. We evaluated the safety and recovery profiles of general anesthesia for acute-phase or continuation/maintenance ambulatory ECT. ⋯ General anesthesia for ambulatory ECT with our protocol was proven to be safe without causing serious complications.

The head-down tilt is thought to increase the cross-sectional areas (CSAs) of the vein in central venous catheterization. In this study, the effectiveness of the head-down tilt was investigated in children. ⋯ The head-down at 10 degrees effectively increased the CSA when the IJV flattening ratios at 0 degrees was more than 0.3 in group H.
