ReviewIntegrating point of care ultrasound into rheumatology practice.
A scenario‑based probability approach integrating point‑of‑care rheumatology ultrasound (POCRUS) into rheumatology practice has recently been proposed as a teaching methodology to encourage greater awareness of US among practicing clinicians, especially with respect to the management of overlapping clinical conditions. This article reviews the rheumatological areas where application of POCRUS substantially enhances clinical reasoning to confirm or exclude target conditions. ⋯ Additionally, it summarizes advances in predicting giant cell arteritis with sequential application of a probability score and US, and discusses the potential role of salivary gland US in the diagnostic workup of suspected Sjögren syndrome. Other areas for POCRUS application, such as in suspected nerve entrapment, are also reviewed.

ReviewHow to better prevent sudden cardiac death? Recent advances.
Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a global public health problem. Despite efforts of the scientific community, it is characterized by low survival (<10%). ⋯ At the population level, efforts are concentrated on prevention of ischemic heart disease, as it is responsible for over 70% of sudden mortality cases in adults, and on development of resuscitation and early defibrillation programs. Much still needs to be done to improve survival by raising awareness in the population through training initiatives and by optimizing available technologies and making them more accessible.

Current practices in the diagnosis of acute pulmonary embolism: a comprehensive analysis of adherence to contemporary practice guidelines.
Acute pulmonary embolism (APE) poses significant diagnostic challenges, with potentially fatal outcomes if not promptly identified and treated. Despite the availability of clinical guidelines, adherence to diagnostic strategies varies globally, impacting patient outcomes. ⋯ There is a need for increased adherence to guideline‑recommended diagnostic and risk stratification strategies in APE among physicians in Poland. Enhancing the availability of PE response teams and promoting guideline‑directed practices could improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.

Are patients with severe obesity aging faster? The impact of severe obesity on different aspects of biological age.
Obesity and aging are characterized by chronic low‑grade inflammation, which contributes to the onset of degenerative processes. ⋯ Premature aging manifests in obesity through telomere length, inflammation levels, and metabolic age. Aging in obesity should be considered as a nonlinear process.

Sex differences in cardiovascular outcomes in patients with acute pancreatitis.
The risk of cardiovascular disease increases in patients with acute pancreatitis. However, it remains unknown whether this increase varies between males and females. ⋯ Male experienced more adverse cardiovascular outcomes than female in the long follow-up after acute pancreatitis, suggesting a need for sex-specific management strategies in acute pancreatitis patients.
