[Expression of intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1, interleukin-10 and the activation of activator protein-1 in ventilator-induced lung injury in rabbits].
To study the expression of intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), Interleukin-10 (IL-10) and the activation of transcription factor activator protein-1 (AP-1) in a rabbit model of ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) and therefore to explore their possible role in VILI. ⋯ ICAM-1 and IL-10 took part in the inflammatory responses of VILI, and their up-regulation maybe due to the increase of their mRNA. Nuclear transcription factor AP-1 maybe involved in the transcriptional regulation mechanisms of these inflammatory mediators.

To retrospectively analyze clinical presentations, pulmonary function parameters and radiological appearance in patients with combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE) syndrome. ⋯ The co-existence of lower lung fibrosis and upper lung emphysema was found in some smokers. Patients with CPFE syndrome can present with a normal or nearly normal lung volume but a remarkable impairment in gas exchange. A high prevalence of pulmonary hypertension is seen in CPFE syndrome. Further studies to elucidate the pathogenesis and to explore the treatment and prognosis are warranted.

[Change of matrix metalloproteinase-1 and matrix metalloproteinase-7 in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis].
To detect the levels of matrix metalloprotease (MMP)-1 and MMP-7 in the serum and the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and sarcoidosis (Stage II), and therefore to investigate the significance of these changes in the pathogenesis of IPF. ⋯ The results suggest that MMP-1 may be increased in the inflammatory phase as compared to the matrix remodeling phase of lung fibrosis, while MMP-7 may be increased in the matrix remodeling phase rather than in the inflammatory phase. MMP-7 may act as an important indicator for the severity of IPF.

[The analysis of the clinical features between survivors and non-survivors with the severe form of new influenza A (H1N1) viral infection].
To understand the clinical features of critically ill patients with pandemic 2009 influenza A (H1N1) and investigate the risk factors associated with death cases. ⋯ Critical illness in pandemic 2009 influenza A (H1N1) was associated with patients under age 65, with obesity, underlying diseases, and pregnancy. Persistently increased CRP and lower counts of T lymphocytes were associated with unfavorable prognosis. The patients with higher BMI and secondary fungal infection had higher fatal risks. Oseltamivir treatments at early stage would probably reduce mortality.

[Investigation on long-term efficacy of CPAP treatment for the elderly with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome].
To investigate the long-term efficacy of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment for the elderly with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). ⋯ CPAP treatment for moderate-severe OSAS could reduce cardiovascular and neurovascular events risk for elderly patients with OSAS.
