[Investigation of the quadriceps strength in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease].
To investigate the quadriceps strength in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and the characteristics of quadriceps dysfunction in COPD patients. ⋯ Our data showed that quadriceps dysfunction was common in COPD patients. QMVC was impaired to a greater extent than isometric endurance, and QMVC positively correlated with the severity of airflow obstruction. The maximal twitch tension induced by magnetic femoral nerve stimulation was an objective method to assess quadriceps strength.

[Apoptosis of alveolar epithelial cells and pulmonary vascular endothelial cells in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease].
To investigate the relationship between apoptosis of alveolar epithelial cells and pulmonary vascular endothelial cells in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the relationship between apoptosis and lung function and emphysema. ⋯ Abnormal apoptosis of alveolar epithelial cells and pulmonary vascular endothelial cells was present in patients and rats with COPD, which was related to the changes of lung function or pathological changes of lung tissues. The results suggest that the abnormal changes of apoptosis of pulmonary tissue in COPD may be involved in the pathogenesis of the disease.

[The role of gastro-intestinal tract microorganisms in the development of ventilator-associated pneumonia: an experimental study].
To study the role of microorganisms in the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract in the development of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). ⋯ Bacteria in the GI tract were not the main source of early-onset VAP, however, they may contribute to the development of late-onset VAP. Gastrointestinal dynamic promoting drugs, which enhance gastrointestinal motility, are useful to reduce the incidence of VAP caused by bacteria colonized in the digestive tract.

[Evaluation of correlation between pulmonary function testing and high resolution computed tomography in pulmonary alveolar proteinosis].
Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) is a rare respiratory disorder featured by lipoproteinaceous material accumulation within alveoli. Pulmonary function testing (PFT) and quantitative high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) are used in evaluation of the severity, development and treatment effects of PAP. ⋯ Pulmonary function was impaired and correlated with abnormal appearance in HRCT in patients with PAP. Quantitative HRCT may be helpful in prediction of pulmonary function changes. Both techniques are important for the prognosis, outcome and follow-up studies of the disease.
