Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Impact of quantitative and qualitative pathogen culture on the outcome of ventilator-associated pneumonia].
To evaluate the impact diagnostic methods with either quantitative culture (QC) or qualitative routine culture (RC) on the outcome of VAP. ⋯ The present study demonstrates that the outcome of VAP is probably more dependent on the adequacy of the initial antibiotic treatment than on the use of either diagnostic sampling.

[Changes in respiratory and circulatory function during sequential invasive-noninvasive mechanical ventilation].
To investigate the change of respiratory and circulatory function in COPD during sequential invasive-noninvasive mechanical ventilation. ⋯ The respiratory and circulatory function of COPD patients remained stable during sequential invasive-noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

[Correlation of endotracheal tube biofilm and recurrent ventilator-associated pneumonia with Pseudomonas aeruginosa].
To determine the correlation of endotracheal tube biofilm (ETT-BF) and recurrent ventilator-associated pneumonia with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA-VAP) in long-term ventilation patients. ⋯ The close pathogenic relationship between ETT-BF and lower airway secretion suggests that adhesive colonization of ETTs may be an important factor in the pathogenesis of VAP.

Comparative Study[A comparison of the effects of PAV, PSV and IPPV on cardiopulmonary function in patients with acute respiratory failure].
Comparing the effects of proportional assist ventilation (PAV), pressure support ventilation (PSV), and intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) on cardiopulmonary function in patients with acute respiratory failure, in particular, evaluating the clinical significance of PAV. ⋯ In patients receiving three modes of ventilation, PAV presents with lower airway pressure, less WoBp and less effect on hemodynamics as compared with those with PSV or IPPV.

[A study on pathological changes and the potential role of growth factors in the airway wall remodeling of COPD rat models].
To study the pathological features of the smooth muscles and collagen in small airways of the COPD rat models and their roles in the airway obstruction, to evaluate the relationship between TGF-beta(1), EGF and bFGF and the airway wall remodeling. ⋯ Thickening of smooth muscles and collagen in the bronchi constitutes the fundamental pathology of airway remodeling in the rat COPD model. The excessive depositions of ECM are important characteristics of COPD. TGF-beta(1), EGF and bFGF may play an important role in the airway wall as well as pulmonary arteriole remodeling. The intervention against TGF-beta(1) and long term inhalation of heparin may be of use in the inhibition of airway remodeling in COPD.
