Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a high incidence of intensive care admittance due to the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired weakness (ICUAW) is a common complication of ICU patients consisting of symmetric and generalised weakness. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of myopathy, neuropathy or both in ICU patients affected by COVID-19 and whether ICUAW associated with COVID-19 differs from other aetiologies. ⋯ Further studies are needed to determine whether COVID-19-related CIM/CIP has different features from other aetiologies. Neurophysiological studies are essential in the diagnosis of these patients.

As concerns regarding neurological manifestations in COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) patients increase, limited data exists on continuous electroencephalography (cEEG) findings in these patients. We present a retrospective cohort study of cEEG monitoring in COVID-19 patients to better explore this knowledge gap. ⋯ cEEG monitoring in COVID-19 patients may aid in better understanding an epileptogenic potential of SARS-CoV2 infection. Nevertheless, larger studies utilizing cEEG are required to better examine acute epileptic risk in COVID-19 patients.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of central sensitization, induced by high frequency electrical stimulation of the skin (HFS), on pinprick-evoked brain potentials (PEPs) using robot-controlled mechanical pinprick stimulation and a stimulus evaluation task. ⋯ This is the first study that shows a significant increase of both PEP peaks, and therefore, it provides a preferred setup for assessing the function of mechanical nociceptive pathways in the context of central sensitization.

Although the characteristics of electroencephalograms (EEGs) have been reported to change with age, anaesthesia-dependent oscillatory features and reactivity of the super-elderly EEG to anaesthesia have not been examined in detail. ⋯ Quantification of δ-θ bicoherence is a candidate for anaesthesia monitoring in the super-elderly.
