We present a case of a 12-year-old female with a history of infantile spasms who developed a propofol-associated acute dystonic reaction after emergence from general anesthesia for foot surgery. Uniquely, the patient's postoperative symptoms of an acute dystonic reaction were refractory to standard treatment with anticholinergics but were successfully treated with corticosteroids. The absence of any dystonic symptoms following subsequent foot surgery under general anesthesia without propofol supported a propofol-associated etiology. This case may contribute to a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms of propofol-associated acute dystonic reactions and adds a possible new treatment option.

Complex microbial ecosystems in both gastrointestinal and respiratory systems have been found to have a significant impact on human health. Growing evidence has demonstrated that intestinal dysbiosis can increase vulnerability to pulmonary infections. However, changes in the composition and activity of the intestinal flora after probiotic supplementation may alter the disease state of the host. ⋯ The control group showed an increase in opportunistic pathogens (Citrobacter, Massilia) during the antibiotic treatment. Probiotics interventions inhibit the growth of opportunistic pathogens. In addition, we found that the population of butyrate-producing bacteria (e.g., Ruminococcaceae UCG-005) increased following probiotic treatment.

The use of bismuth-containing quadruple therapy (BQT) in Helicobacter pylori eradication has been increasing. Although the recommended treatment length for BQT is 14 days, longer durations may be associated with higher rates of adverse events. The aim of this study was to evaluate the optimal duration of BQT by comparing eradication rates and adverse events among 7, 10, and 14-day regimens. ⋯ However, there were no significant differences in eradication rates between the 10- and 14-day groups in either ITT (P = .667) or PP (P = .537) analysis. Adverse event incidence was comparable among the groups (P = .835). Treatment with BQT for 10 days was as effective as 14 days without increasing the adverse events.

Fragile X-related protein 1 (FXR1) is an RNA-binding protein that belongs to the fragile X-related (FXR) family. Studies have shown that FXR1 plays an important role in cancer cell proliferation, invasion and migration and is differentially expressed in cancers. This study aimed to gain a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the analysis of FXR1's role in cancers. ⋯ Our study provides insights into the role of FXR1 in promoting, inhibiting, and treating diverse cancers. FXR1 has the potential to serve as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for cancer, with therapeutic value in immune-based, targeted, or cytotoxic treatments. Further clinical validation and exploration of FXR1 in cancer treatment is necessary.

This study aimed to investigate the active composition and mechanism of the Shuganfang (SGF) in treating drug-induced liver injury (DILI) using network pharmacology and molecular docking. The potential active ingredients and targets of SGF were obtained from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database (TCMSP) database. DILI-related targets were queried from various databases including GEO, GeneCards, OMIM, NCBI, and DisGeNET. ⋯ The findings indicated that the docking outcomes remained consistent and demonstrated a favorable capacity for binding. SGF exerts a therapeutic effect on DILI through multiple active ingredients, multiple targets and multiple pathways. Our findings contribute to a positive investigation and establish a theoretical basis for further extensive exploration of SGF as a potential treatment for DILI in future research.
