The prevalence of cancer pain will continue to rise as pain is common among the survivorship and general cancer population. As interest in cannabis and cannabinoids for medicinal use including pain management continues to rise, there is growing need to update and review the current state of evidence for their use. The literature was searched for articles in English with key words cannabis, cannabinoids, and cancer pain. The sources of articles were PubMed, Embase, and open Google search. ⋯ To date, preclinical data has demonstrated evidence to suggest promising potential for cancer pain and the urgent need to translate this into clinical practice. Unfortunately, due to limited data, for adults with advanced cancer being treated with opiate therapy, the addition of cannabis or cannabinoids is not currently supported to address cancer pain effectively.

Evaluation of a Pharmacist Managed Telephone Pain Clinic for Neuropathy Treatment.
Pain is prevalent in our society, affecting more than a quarter-million U. S. adults and leading to poor patient outcomes. At the Veteran's Affairs San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS), a Telephone Pain Clinic (TPC) was developed to improve these outcomes. ⋯ At discharge, pain medications that were increased were use of serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), pregabalin, and capsaicin. Management by the TPC showed promise and trends toward reducing pain experienced by patients with diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, or postherpetic neuralgia. The TPC also may be more effective in maximizing evidenced-based pharmacotherapy for neuropathic pain, suggesting expertise by pharmacist clinical specialists.

Case ReportsCT-guided Percutaneous Radiofrequency Ablation of Osteoid Osteoma with Double Nidi in One Session.
Osteoid osteoma with multiple nidi is a rare condition. The aim of this report is to share a case of an osteoid osteoma with two separate nidi, which underwent radio-frequency ablation (RFA) treatment under CT-guidance for each of the nidi in the same session. A 15-year girl with osteoid osteoma in left tibia was referred to our clinic for percutaneous RFA. She had pain that worsened at nights. ⋯ To our knowledge, this case is one of the very few cases with double nidi, which was treated with RFA in one session. RFA is safe in treatment of osteoid osteomas; even two close and separate nidi can safely be treated in the same session. Key Words: Osteoid osteoma, Nidi, Treatment, Radiofrequency ablation.

To investigate the effect of multidisciplinary interventions on pain management in cancer inpatients. Four hundred thirty eight patients with cancer pain, who performed the multidisciplinary intervention were recruited. Before and after intervention, the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) and the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI) score as the primary endpoints and QOL scores as the secondary endpoint were all evaluated. ⋯ The QOL analyses showed multidisciplinary interventions could significantly improve the function and symptom scores (P < .001). More patients in responder group received chemotherapy (58, 70.7%, P = .003), while fewer received mini-invasive therapy (6, 7.32%, P = .011). Multidisciplinary interventions had certain beneficial effect on cancer pain management, especially in patients with moderate or severe pain.

Meniscus tear is one of the most familiar orthopedic injury, and it is also the leading cause of the dysfunction of knee joint. Recent efforts to improve the success rate of the meniscus repair surgery involve the addition of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The aim of our experiment is to assess the clinical effects of arthroscopic repair of meniscal tears without or with PRP. ⋯ We suppose that arthroscopic PRP repair of meniscus tears results in improved pain and functional results owing to the release of bioactive molecules that may affect the healing of meniscus.
