Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe condition that often leads to persistent damage of nerve cells and motor dysfunction. Autophagy is an intracellular system that regulates the recycling and degradation of proteins and lipids, primarily through lysosomal-dependent organelle degradation. Numerous publications have highlighted the involvement of autophagy in the secondary injury of SCI. Therefore, gaining a comprehensive understanding of autophagy research is crucial for designing effective therapies for SCI. ⋯ We demonstrated a comprehensive overview of the relationship between autophagy and SCI utilizing bibliometric tools. This article could help to enhance the understanding of the field about autophagy and SCI, foster collaboration among researchers and organizations, and identify potential therapeutic targets for treatment.

Recent advances in infertility therapy, such as hormone medication and in vitro fertilization (IVF), have led to an increase in the demand for IVF. North Cyprus is a new medical tourist destination, and this study aimed to discover influential demographic predictors of IVF patients' satisfaction and quality-of-life (QoL) after receiving reproductive IVF services. Two questionnaires on IVF patient satisfaction and QoL were administered to 101 patients who received services in selected IVF clinics. ⋯ Doctor professionalism was another significant factor for greater satisfaction in older patients than in young patients who underwent IVF treatment. Satisfaction with IVF services was reduced by increasing education levels. IVF services must be managed and provided based on the needs of patients from different demographic backgrounds and efforts must be made to improve satisfaction with fertility services.

Could TREM-1 be a novel marker in the diagnosis of fibromyalgia?: A cross-sectional study.
Triggering receptors expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) are transmembrane molecules expressed in cells of the immune system. Activation of TREM-1 leads to the release of pro-inflammatory mediators, which act as amplifiers of inflammation and thereby contribute to the pathogenesis of various diseases, whether inflammatory or not. This study explored the role of TREM-1 in the etiopathogenic context of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and its association with disease activity. ⋯ The FIQ, Pittsburgh sleep quality index, hospital anxiety and depression scale, fatigue severity scale, and visual analog scale, which confirm symptoms such as pain, disease severity, sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, and fatigue seen in FMS was significantly correlated with TREM-1 level (P < .001). The optimal threshold value for TREM-1 to disease activity was determined to be 182.250, showing (area under the curve) (CI (95%)): [0.940] (0.887-0.993), a sensitivity of 97% and a specificity of 89% according to the receiver operating characteristic analysis. The positive correlation of TREM-1 with various symptom severity scales and hematological inflammatory indices may be a suitable biomarker for the diagnosis of FMS and a potential therapeutic target.

Over time, several studies have been conducted to demonstrate the functions of the neurotransmitter 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), better known as serotonin. This neurotransmitter is associated with the modulation of various social and physiological behaviors, and its dysregulation has consequences at the behavioral level, leading to various neurophysiological disorders. ⋯ The involvement of β-arrestin proteins has been implicated in the modulation of the serotonergic receptor response, as well as the activation of different signaling pathways related to the serotonergic system, this is particularly relevant in depressive disorders. This review will cover the implications of alterations in 5-HT receptor expression in depressive disorders in one hand and how β-arrestin proteins modulate the response mediated by these receptors in the other hand.

The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is a regularly arranged monolayer of cells in the outermost layer of the retina. It is crucial for transporting nutrients and metabolic substances in the retina and maintaining the retinal barrier. RPE dysfunction causes diseases related to vision loss. ⋯ In this review, we attempt to broaden the understanding of the pathogenesis of RPE dysfunction by focusing on the role and mechanism of AMPK regulation of autophagy in the RPE. The correlation between RPE cellular homeostasis and role of AMPK was determined by analyzing the structure and mechanism of AMPK and its signaling pathway in autophagy. The protective effect of AMPK-regulated autophagy on the RPE for gaining insights into the regulatory pathways of RPE dysfunction has been discussed.
