Percentiles of predicted 10-year cardiovascular disease risk by sex and age in Brazil and their association with estimated risk of long-term atherosclerotic events.
Expressing the cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in relation to peers may complement the estimation of absolute CVD risk. We aimed to determine 10-year CVD risk percentiles by sex and age in the Brazilian population and evaluate their association with estimated long-term atherosclerotic CVD (ASCVD) risk. ⋯ We established percentiles of predicted 10-year CVD risk by sex and age in the Brazilian population, which independently reflect the estimated long-term ASCVD risk in younger individuals.

Understanding the dynamics of the obesity transition associated with physical activity, sedentary lifestyle, and consumption of ultra-processed foods in Colombia.
We investigate the obesity transition at the country- and regional-levels, by age, gender, and socioeconomic status (SES) and its relationship to three health behavior attributes, including physical activity (PA), sedentary activities (ST), and consumption of ultra-processed foods (CUPF) within the urban population of Colombia, from 20,010 to 2050. ⋯ The burden of obesity is shifting towards women with lower SES as GDP increases at the national level and across several regions. This obesity transition is paralleled by a high prevalence of women from low SES groups who do not meet the minimum recommendations for PA, CUPF, and ST. Our findings can be used by decision-makers to inform age- and SES- specific policies seeking to tackle the obesity.

Independent and joint associations of aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercise with mental health in adolescents: A cross-sectional analysis before and during COVID-19 using the 2015-2021 National Youth Risk Behavior Survey.
COVID-19 led to social isolation that may have compromised adolescent mental health. This study examined the independent and joint associations of aerobic physical activity (PA) and muscle-strengthening exercise (MSE) with mental health problems in adolescents. ⋯ Meeting aerobic PA and MSE recommendations associated with lower prevalence of mental health problems. Participation in MSE below recommended levels may be beneficial for females when combined with aerobic PA. Future research should examine these associations by acquiring contextual information and device-based assessments.

Age-dependent interaction between life's essential 8 and chronic kidney disease: A national cross-sectional analysis.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD), an age-related condition, is closely associated with cardiovascular disease. We aimed to examine the age-dependent interaction between Life's Essential 8 (LE8), the updated measurement of cardiovascular health (CVH), and CKD in the United States. ⋯ CVH, as measured by the LE8 score, was negatively associated with the presence of CKD in non-linear fashions, more pronounced in participants aged 65 and older compared to younger age groups.

Outdoor smoke-free policies at sports clubs across Europe: Current status, recent evidence, and future challenges.
This commentary emphasizes the importance of implementing outdoor smoke-free policies at sports clubs, particularly highlighting their limited adoption across Europe. The primary aim was to assess the progress made in the Netherlands, explore the strategies employed, and outline future challenges. ⋯ The Dutch experiences serve as a testimony to the feasibility of outdoor smoke-free policies at sports clubs. By addressing the remaining challenges, we can create healthier sports environments for children and take substantial steps towards realizing a smoke-free Europe.
