Improving physical activity assessment in prepubertal children with high-frequency accelerometry monitoring: a methodological issue.
The aim of this study was to examine the duration of physical activity (PA) bouts in prepubertal children with high-frequency accelerometry monitoring. ⋯ Children's PA pattern is highly transitory and intermittent whatever its intensity. Physical activity assessed with a sampling interval related to children's behavior may improve our understanding of their PA patterns.

Multicenter StudyTesting anonymous link procedures for follow-up of adolescents in a school-based trial: the EU-DAP pilot study.
To study the feasibility of an anonymous coding procedure linking longitudinal information in a multi-center trial of substance abuse prevention among adolescents. ⋯ Self-generation of anonymous codes is a feasible, but not a very efficient procedure to link longitudinal data among adolescents. Easy derivation and iterative matching procedures are crucial for achieving high efficiency of this type of anonymous linkage.

We assessed the impact of a partial smoking ban in a psychiatric hospital in Switzerland. ⋯ The partial smoking ban was well accepted and was associated with less exposure to ETS. However, even a partial ban proved difficult to enforce in this hospital.

To understand predictors of medical students' prevention counseling practices. ⋯ Several of the variables predicting physician counseling also predict US medical students' reporting counseling (especially personal health practices and specialty type). In addition, the avidity with which medical schools encourage students to be healthy significantly influences their reported patient counseling. These findings can give a fresh, evidence-based direction to help create physicians who counsel patients about prevention.

Prevalence and correlates of doctor-geriatric patient lifestyle discussions: analysis of ADEPT videotapes.
This study identifies the prevalence and correlates of physician-geriatric patient discussions about physical activity and nutrition lifestyle behaviors. ⋯ Given the impact of lifestyle behaviors on myriad health outcomes, the current prevalence rates of physician discussion, while higher than in many previous studies, remain sub-optimal. Practical assessment tools, training in behavioral counseling, and reimbursement incentives are recommended strategies for raising physical activity and nutrition discussion prevalence in primary care settings.
