To investigate the expression of the Toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 in the brain after experimental subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) in rabbits. ⋯ Our results indicate that TLR4 expression is upregulated in the brain after experimental SAH.

Severe trauma leads to an increased vulnerability to bacterial sepsis. In the present study, we compared the immunostimulating potential of granulocyte-colony stimulating-factor (G-CSF), granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma). ⋯ These data suggest that GM-CSF and IFN-gamma may serve to support immune functions in severely injured patients.

To investigate the effects of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) on rat acute lung injury (ALI). ⋯ Treatment with rhGH can significantly attenuate lung injury in the endotoxemic rats, which may be attributed to the reduction of the expression of ICAM-1, the influence on the adhesion and activation of PMNs, the inhibition of the activation of NF-kappaB and the regulation of the transcription of certain proinflammatory cytokines.

To investigate the effect of FR167653, a dual inhibitor of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1 (IL-1), on Bacillus Calmétte-Guérin (BCG) plus lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced-liver injury and its mechanisms. ⋯ TNF-alpha and IL-1 released from activated KCs were involved in BCG plus LPS induced liver injury. FR167653 significantly attenuated hepatocyte injury via inhibition of TNF-alpha and IL-1 released from activated KCs.
