Effect of Goal-directed Fluid Therapy on the Shedding of the Glycocalyx Layer in Retroperitoneal Tumour Resection.
To evaluate the effects of different stroke volume variation (SVV) targets on endothelial glycocalyx (EG) shedding. ⋯ Using SVV 14% as a target for guiding fluid therapy in elective retroperitoneal tumour resection was associated with reduced perioperative glycocalyx shedding, ameliorated inflammatory response, and reduced postoperative complications. Key Words: Randomised controlled trial, Retroperitoneal neoplasms, Glycocalyx, Tumour necrosis factor-alpha, Interleukin-6, Fluid therapy, Stroke volume.

Hemichorea-hemiballismus, secondary to hyperglycemia, is a rare but easily treatable condition that is usually associated with type II diabetes mellitus. This is a case of a 68- year lady, with long-standing, poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, who presented with disabling right-sided hemichorea-hemiballismus. ⋯ This case highlights the importance of treatment of hyperglycaemia in a diabetic patient presenting with acute or sub-acute abnormal movement disorder. Key Words: Hemichorea, Hemiballismus, Hyperglycemia, T-1 hyperintensity.

We present a case of a 49-year Turkish woman who had synchronous renal leiomyoma and breast cancer. The patient was evaluated for a suspicious breast mass; and renal mass was detected incidentally by contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT). Diagnostic tru-cut biopsy was performed for both masses. ⋯ Histopathological examination was consistent with renal leiomyoma. For both tumours, no recurrence within one year was found on follow-up. Key Words: Renal leiomyoma, Breast cancer, Laparoscopy.
