[Detection of the mRNA level of the subunits of amiloride-sensitive Na+ channel in human bronchial epithelium cells from patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease].
To investigate the role of epithelial amiloride-sensitive Na(+) channel (ENaC) in the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the effect of interleukin-4 (IL-4) and IL-6. ⋯ The increased ENaC alpha and gamma subunits in COPD group suggest that they may play a key role in the pathogenesis of COPD. Similarly, the increased ENaC alpha subunit mRNA in the smoking group indicates that smoking contributes to COPD development. IL-4 and IL-6 can influence the re-absorption of Na(+) in bronchial epithelial cells, which may be involved in the hypersecretion of COPD.

[Change of extravascular lung water in sheep with early acute respiratory distress syndrome].
To determine the change of extravascular lung water (EVLW) and the effect of positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) and cardiac output (CO) on EVLW in the sheep with early acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ⋯ EVLW in ARDS sheep increased significantly and remained at the same level during the early phase of ARDS. PEEP had a markedly effect in reducing EVLW, while the increase of CO induced by dobutamine did not significantly raise EVLW.

[Clinical investigation of the diagnostic value of interferon-gamma, interleukin-12 and adenosine deaminase isoenzyme in tuberculous pleurisy].
To investigate the diagnostic value of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), interleukin-12 (IL-12) and adenosine deaminase isoenzymes (ADA(2)) in tuberculous pleural effusions. ⋯ IFN-gamma and IL-12 could be used as valuable parameters for the differentiation of tuberculous effusion from malignant, and IFN-gamma was more sensitive and specific for tuberculous effusion than IL-12 and ADA(2).

Comparative Study[Comparative analysis of respiratory bronchiolitis-associated interstitial lung disease and desquamative interstitial pneumonia].
To investigate the clinicopathologic characteristics of respiratory bronchiolitis-associated interstitial lung disease (RBILD) and its relationship to desquamative interstitial pneumonia (DIP). ⋯ RBILD could be confused with DIP in clinical manifestations, but can be separated by open lung biopsy. Considering their similarities, these two lesions may be regarded as a same disease entity.

[Imbalanced T cell-specific transcription factors T-bet and GATA-3 contributes to type 2 T helper cell polarization in asthmatic patients].
To identify the T helper cell predominant differentiation in asthmatic patients and to explore the modulation of T cell-specific transcription factors T-bet/GATA-3. ⋯ In asthma there is a tendency of Th2 polarization with over-production of Th2-like cytokines in which T-bet deficiency may be a key factor. T-bet might direct T cells to Th1 differentiation while GATA-3 orientated Th2 maturation. Considering the fact that committed Th2 cells underwent re-differentiation induced by T-bet, this novel Th1-specific transcription factor is a fascinating target gene for modifying to restore the Th1 and Th2 balance.
